Millions of Americans are afflicted by Alzheimer's
Unfortunately, Alzheimer's is on a rapid rise in the U.S. with current estimates expecting the 5.7 million to rise to nearly 14 million by 2050. That means many of the people we know and love are at risk, ourselves included, with no known cure yet in sight. That is why we are dedicated to learning more through research.
The Stakes Are High
Our lives are a collection of memories spent with the friends and families we love and care for. The trips we take, the celebrations, the births, holidays, good, bad and everything in between. All of those moments are valuable memories that enrich our lives. No one should ever have to lose a life spent living due to cognitive decline.
Our research at the Wig Neuroimaging Lab at the Center for Vital Longevity at UTD is dedicated to understanding the aging human brain, to identify the key factors that lead to cognitive decline as we age. That decline can lead to cognitive decline and dementias, such as Alzheimer's. The more we understand, the better our chance at identifying early signs, to work towards prevention and treatment, because we all deserve to age with a healthy mind.
